Green-themed documentaries exploring stories of community-led grassroots environmental action around Melbourne.

Throughout RESET, you can catch documentaries on the Big Screen, presenting stories about how different local community groups made up of dedicated volunteers work to protect our environment, repair our waterways and preserve threatened species – and find meaning and purpose doing it.

Presented by Fed Square as part of RESET – a free festival for greener living.

From the Ground Up

4–19 September, 4pm–5.30pm | Big Screen

From the Ground Up is an eight-part documentary series and feature film hosted by Costa Georgiadis, exploring the diversity of work that environmental volunteers do across the more than 500 volunteer groups operating in the greater Melbourne area. Learn about the stories behind the groups and individuals that devote their time to improving our soil and waterways, and to repair habitats to protect critically endangered species. Their efforts not only heal the land but also foster connection, purpose, and wellbeing beyond daily routines.

Big Swim

30 September–3 October, 2.30pm–3pm | Big Screen

Tracing the story of a group of advocates working towards the vision of a swimmable Yarra River/ Birrarung, Big Swim is a short film about hope and creating a better future for Melbourne. Drawing upon direct experiences of public swimming places opening along the Seine in Paris and the world’s first Swimmable Cities Summit in Rotterdam, viewers are invited to imagine what could be possible in our own backyard.
