The Melbourne Salon at & Gallery Australia
The term Salon was originally the name of the official art exhibitions organised by the French Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture (Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture) and its successor the Academy of Fine Arts (Académie des Beaux Arts). The format of group exhibiting became known as The Salon hang, with walls filled with layers of paintings and floor space occupied with multiply sculptures. It was a place where independent artists could have their artworks seen by wider audiences and these exhibitions attracted thousand of visitors. The Melbourne Salon at & Gallery @FEDSQ. continues this tradition showcasing independent artists from around Australia and internationally. All works are available for you to take home today.

Disconnected by Luke Millanta
Disconnected is a one-of-one, dynamic, evolving NFT artwork that leverages United Nations datasets to track global internet connectivity rates. Disconnected will evolve over time, continuing to grow as more and more people are connected to the internet. Based on current data, 37% of the world’s population (approximately 3 billion people) have never used the internet. Disconnected has been created to raise awareness of this fact and encourage the world’s governments to do more in ensuring their citizens have access to a free and open internet. Disconnected was created by Luke Millanta, an artist, game designer and technology entrepreneur, and will be displayed on the Big Screen at Fed Square from 9pm-11:30pm Friday 24 June, and 6pm-8:30pm on 25-26 June. WHO ARE YOU: Australian Portraiture at NGV Australia
WHO ARE YOU: Australian Portraiture is one of the most comprehensive explorations of portraiture ever mounted in Australia and the first exhibition to bring together the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra. The exhibition will be on display in Melbourne from 25 March to 21 August 2022 and Canberra from 1 October 2022 to 29 January 2023. Revealing the rich artistic synergies and contrasts between the two institutions’ collections, this co-curated exhibition considers portraiture in Australia across time and media, as well as the role of the portraiture genre in the development of a sense of Australian national identity. Featuring more than two-hundred works by Australian artists including Patricia Piccinini, Atong Atem, Howard Arkley, Vincent Namatjira and Tracey Moffatt, and featuring sitters including Cate Blanchett, Albert Namatjira, Queen Elizabeth II, Eddie Mabo and David Gulpilil, the exhibition explores our inner worlds and outer selves, as well as issues of sociability, intimacy, isolation, celebrity and ordinariness.
