Fresh ideas and activities for a healthier mind, body and planet.
This Spring, as the birds start to sing, it’s the perfect time to get your hands dirty, nurture nature and experience some green sky thinking at Fed Square. Sustainable September is your month of green-themed free activity, art, inspiration and activation.
We’re celebrating the humble worm, swapping clothes, cleaning up our act (Birrarung!) and turning waste into wearable fashion.
You can follow the green-brick road, explore art and ideas and take action to help create positive environmental change.
Let’s go!
Sample delicious food, shop for cruelty-free fashion and learn all about what it’s like to be vegan at the vegan market. Thanks to Green My Plate, the vegan market is waste-free – your plate will be washed and re-used, so you can feel good while you fill up!
It’s time to give back to the Birrarung and help clean up our act, together. Come join in this community event to clean up the Yarra River, in association with the Yarra Riverkeeper Association.
Be sure to register your attendance for this community event!
All hail the golden worm! Elevating the humble worm to where it belongs, wrought in gold and on a plinth, this artwork by Kathy Holowko reminds us of the amazing work those wriggly little fellas do, nourishing the soil while hidden under the ground. Come pay tribute!
Attend panel discussions with sustainability experts and visit pop-up stalls to learn more about how we can all reduce waste in our daily lives. Presented by Zero Waste Victoria in partnership with Fed Square. Green My Plate will be there to wash your plate, so that your delicious food-truck lunch is also zero-waste!
Come down to the City of Melbourne Pop Up Library, a chill out zone for kids to choose books about food, sustainability, health and community and have fun.
These September school holidays, bring the kids to ACMI, The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia and the Koorie Heritage Trust, to join in the Green Brick Road Art Hunt! Follow the clues to find some special artworks that explore ideas of sustainability and the environment – and learn how art can help us think about important issues. Great prizes up for grabs!
Fast fashion is out, so let’s get stylish and recycle, swap and mend. Explore different ways to create a more ethical and sustainable fashion industry, with expert panel discussions, practical workshops and demos and a free documentary film screening.
Explore a sustainable future at Fed Square these school holidays.
Major Partner, Bupa will be running a range of fun, interactive activities for the kids and you can even grab a free coffee with an edible cup – that’s a double shot of sustainability.
Join in a yoga class, learn about worm composting, explore the hidden underground labyrinth of Fed Square or bring the kids to turning waste into wearable items – our Green Workshop series are entry-by-donation, with all proceeds going to the Black Duck foundation.
Drop into &Gallery in the Atrium this Sustainable September to visit this specially curated exhibition, which draws together the works of artists who explore ideas of the human impact on the environment, sustainability and climate change in their work.
Karin Traeger, CEO of The Yarra Riverkeeper Association is set to run 280kms to Celebrate World Rivers Day (25 September) and raise awareness and money to promote a healthy, protected and loved Yarra/Birrarung River. Karin will be running past Fed Square on 30 September at approximately 3.30pm – be sure to come along and cheer her on!
See a life-sized kayak made entirely of plastic bottles in The Atrium Fracture Gallery, this Sustainable September.
