PHOTO 2021 International Festival of Photography has invited the public to participate in Inside Out, the global participatory art project initiated by French artist JR that transforms messages of personal identity into works of art. The Inside Out project gives everyone a platform to speak their truth.
PHOTO 2021 has called for people to submit their portraits, to tell them “WHAT IS YOUR TRUTH?”, tying in with the festival’s theme, exploring the critical relationship between photography and truth.
Up to 1000 portraits will be printed as posters and pasted up during the opening week of PHOTO 2021 International Festival of Photography at Fed Square this February.
The Inside Out project has traveled from Ecuador to Nepal, from Mexico to Palestine, inspiring group actions on varied themes such as hope, diversity, gender-based violence, climate change. Each Inside Out group action around the world is documented, archived and exhibited online. Over 260,000 people have participated in 129 countries, and PHOTO 2021’s group action will be the largest scale project in Australia.
