Following their beautifully assured debut at the 2020 Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, the Wattleseed Ensemble will bring their particular brand of magic to The Edge at Federation Square in 2022.
Comprised of violist Katie Yap, violinist Natalia Harvey, and cellist Anna Pokorny, the Baroque string trio was founded with the goal of bringing together diverse audiences to reflect on climate change and our shared Australian landscape through music. Performing repertoire that ranges from the middle ages to the high Baroque, and also dipping into folk music and contemporary Australian works, the Wattleseed Ensemble demonstrates just how versatile period instruments can be.
For this concert, they’ll present a program spanning nearly ten centuries, from Hildegard von Bingen’s Processional of Embodied Souls to Bach’s The Art of Fugue, through to a highly anticipated world premiere by Musica Viva FutureMaker Matt Laing, titled From Home. Rounding out the program are two Scandinavian songs, a traditional waltz and a contemporary jig.
