Bach meets jazz in this ingenious program by the Michelle Nicolle Quartet, an ensemble who have lit up clubs and concert halls all over Australia and the world for more than two decades. Comprised of guitarist Geoff Hughes, drummer Ronny Ferella, and bassist Howard Cairns, frontperson Michelle Nicolle has been described by none other than Kurt Elling as ‘a singer born to sing’.
For this Viva Edge concert, they’ll marry the worlds of classical and jazz with their trademark wit and flair. Audiences can expect to hear a new spin on Bach’s beloved aria Bist du bei mir and the Musette in D Major, while two of his works – the Sarabande from his Partita No 1 and his Fugue in G Minor – will be blended with Horace Silver’s Lonely Woman and Thelonious Monk’s Round Midnight respectively. Rounding on the program are Petzold’s Minuet in G, Arianne’s Komm, süsser Tod (based on a Bach piano work), and Coleman’s March in D’Ornette.
