Fed Square Lighting Request

Fed Square is an iconic site in the heart of the city of Melbourne. Since its opening in 2002, its façade has been lit up for a range of causes; events; celebrations. In 2022 it was fitted with a sophisticated lighting system that enables the facades of the buildings in the Main Square, the Atrium, and the Edge buildings to be lit up almost instantly in a wide range of colours.

The lighting of architecture across Melbourne is regularly requested by a diverse range of organisations. It is important to ensure that light up activities within Fed Square are delivered with discretion to maximise their impact, whilst also allowing for Fed Square to deploy lighting for its own programming and event hires. To assist with this the following guidelines have been created regarding lighting requests

Applications for 2025 are now closed.

  • MAP Co will consider requests to light up from charitable and non-for-profit organisations recognised within the State of Victoria and/or
    • has a national or international significance, as determined by MAP Co and/or State Government.
    • is a recognised charity activation in Melbourne on the requested date.
  • Major events as determined by the State Government of Victoria and precinct partners.
  • MAP Co will accommodate charitable and non-for-profit lighting requests for up to 25 days per year.
  • Light up approaches that involve other buildings within the city or arts precinct are preferred and will be prioritised.
  • Requests will not be considered for national days of other countries or from individuals for their own purposes unless they have a strong historical connection in Victoria.
  • MAP Co reserves the right to accept or reject applications at its discretion.
  • MAP Co can override any booking at any time if an alternative light up of State, National or International significance is made for the same day of the booking, as determined by MAP Co and/or State Government, or in the event of a safety or security emergency.
  • Non-for-profit applications must be made by November 1 for the forthcoming year at a maximum of one (1) request per organisation, per year.
  • Any request that MAP Co considers political, religious or of a sensitive nature will be considered by MAP Co in consultation with the State Government but there is the possibility of the request not being facilitated.
