Unnerved

Unnerved is a public art animation by multimedia artist, Anita Glesta, that was created from research at UNSW fEEL Lab exploring the impact of trauma on the body and physical health. Audiences are invited to engage with the work through sessions conducted by Anita that will assess their response to the experience.

Presented in partnership with Fed Square, Unnerved is an animated narrative on the embodied effects of trauma and grief. The animation will be projected on ACMI and screened inside the Atrium. Anita offers audiences a guided talk through her work while the animation is screened.

Anita’s installation-based and public artworks in diverse mediums have been exhibited internationally in many recognized institutions and public venues. Public art has been paramount to her vision, connecting the community through interactive engaging works. Anita states “All of my work aims to subvert and catalyze different ways to think about our shared humanity in a historic and contemporary context. I integrate these concerns by inviting the viewer to look and to engage with their entire physical and psychological selves”.

Audiences are invited to engage with Anita’s work through sessions conducted by Anita between 11am-2pm that will assess their response to the experience.

About Anita

Anita Glesta is best known for her multimedia and public installations (Watershed 2016-2021, Venice Biennale (2022), National Theatre, London 2015; New York Public Library 2017, Parrish Art Museum, NY 2021) among many other projects and venues. In addition to public art commissions, Glesta’s multimedia installations have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the world.

Glesta’s solo museum and gallery exhibitions include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Krakow; Peking Museum of Art and Archaeology, Beijing; Hudson River Museum, NY; White Columns, NY; White Box, NY; Five Myles Gallery, NY; and others. Numerous group exhibitions at Museums include the AGNSW Sydney (Perspecta), The Performance Space, Sydney, the New Museum, NY and many more. The permanent sculpture garden “The Yurong Water Gardens” was commissioned by Sydney City Council in 1999 at Cook and Phillip Park.

A recipient of many grants and fellowships, Glesta’s work has been reviewed in numerous journals, magazines and online reviews. Interviews and articles with the artist include BOMB magazine, Hyperallergic, Studio International, Sculpture Magazine, and many more.
