The Screen Show: MIFF's Bright Horizons Filmakers

Three of the most exciting emerging directors from Canada, Palestine and New Zealand discuss their journeys with The Screen Show’s Jason Di Rosso in this special event presented with ABC Radio National.

Join an insightful conversation with three international filmmakers from this year’s Bright Horizons Competition for first and second features, which is attached to one of the richest film prizes in the world and supported by VicScreen. Featuring: Canadian–Hungarian filmmaker Sophy Romvari, whose award-winning debut feature Blue Heron premiered at the Locarno Film Festival before screening at TIFF, and has been described by The Hollywood Reporter as “the most acclaimed film of 2026 so far”; New Zealand–based Paloma Schneideman, director of Big Girls Don’t Cry, which premiered in competition at Sundance and has also been selected for SXSW, BFI Flare and TIFF Next Wave; and award-winning Palestinian filmmaker Rakan Mayasi, whose first feature Yesterday the Eye Didn’t Sleep premiered at Cannes in Un Certain Regard.
