The Run Up: Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival Official Kickoff

Sport
Free

Race weekend starts here.

Join as the Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival kicks off with Eliud Kipchoge, one of the greatest marathon runners of all time, making his only public appearance while he’s in Melbourne.

This is your chance to get up close with marathon royalty as Eliud takes to the stage to celebrate the start of race weekend, share his experience and meet the Melbourne running community. There will be opportunities to hear Eliud live on stage, take photos, get autographs and even take home a signed piece of memorabilia.

The day kicks off at 11.30am, with the official The Run Up Shakeout Run getting underway at 11.45am. Join fellow runners for a relaxed 4.1km community run through the heart of Melbourne, led by the Better Beer music bike. Before runners set off, Eliud Kipchoge will join participants for a special group selfie and send runners on their way.

From 12.30pm, the Main Stage program will bring the energy back to Fed Square, with Eliud Kipchoge live on stage alongside some of Australia’s leading distance runners, including Sinead Diver, Jimmy Whelan, Brett Robinson and Georgie Grgec. Hear from the athletes, enjoy live entertainment and soak up the atmosphere as Melbourne transforms into the home of running.

Whether you’re running this weekend, supporting someone who is, or simply want to experience the excitement, The Run Up at Fed Square is the place to be.

Come down early, bring your friends, make your encouragement signs, explore the precinct and get ready to celebrate the start of race weekend.

Don’t miss your chance to see Eliud Kipchoge live. This is his only public appearance in Melbourne.
