The Great Registration Race for DonateLife Week 2022

Melburnians who have signed up to be organ and tissue donors are being thanked on Wednesday 27 July 2022 with a free coffee at Fed Square to celebrate DonateLife Week – a public awareness initiative that encourages Australians to register and organ and tissue donors. Those who are yet to sign up can swing by Fed Square between 7:30am – 10:30am on Wednesday, register in less than a minute, and enjoy a free coffee to thank them for being a lifesaver. Around 22% of people in Victoria are registered organ donors, a figure below the national average of 36%. We know this isn’t because Victorians don’t support organ and tissue donation – they do. In fact, a recent poll of 60,000 Australians (ABC Talks 2021) showed 4 out of 5 people say they’d be willing to donate their organs when they die.

That’s why we are racing to encourage up to 100,000 more Australians to register as organ and tissue donors as part of the Great Registration Race for DonateLife Week.

Registering is easy – it only takes one minute at donatelife.gov.au/viccoffee or just three taps in your Medicare app.

The Great Registration Race for DonateLife Week runs through July and August with a big push in DonateLife week: Sunday 24 July to Sunday 31 July.
