Where will the event take place?
The Great Melbourne Bagpipe Bash will take place at Fed Square, right in the heart of Melbourne. The performance area will be set up in the Main Square, surrounded by Melbourne’s iconic city skyline.
How will I register?
Registrations are free and open to all pipers, old and young. Simply register online via the REGISTER HERE button above. Once registered, you’ll receive confirmation with event details, sheet music, and updates leading up to the big day.
Do I need to bring my own bagpipes?
Yes! All participants will need to bring their own bagpipes. Unfortunately, instruments can’t be provided on the day.
What time is the event?
The event will take place on Wednesday 12 November 2025. Please arrive in front of the stage and check in at 4.30pm, for a 5.10pm sharp performance.
What time do I need to arrive?
We recommend arriving by 4.30pm to allow enough time to check in and tune up before the performance.
How can I learn the music?
Once you register, you’ll be sent a confirmation email with the sheet music to AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)” – simplified for bagpipes, so pipers of all skill levels can join in. You can also find a ‘how to’ video lesson on YouTube here.
Can I wear my kilt?
Absolutely! We encourage it. Whether you come in your kilt, your school uniform or your skinny jeans, we want you to wear whatever makes you feel part of the moment.
Do I need to be an experienced piper?
Not at all. The event is open to all ages and ability levels – from seasoned band members to players keen to dust off the pipes. If you can play the tune, you’re welcome.
Is there a cost to participate?
No – participation is completely free. This is a community celebration open to all who love AC/DC, global recognition, and the sound (and spirit!) of the pipes.
What happens if it rains?
The event will go ahead rain or shine unless there are severe weather conditions that make it unsafe to perform. Any updates will be sent via email and posted on Fed Square’s social channels.
Will the event be filmed or photographed?
Yes! This is a public event and there will be official photography and filming for promotional and media purposes. By participating, you agree that your image may appear in media coverage and Fed Square communications.
Can friends and family come to watch?
Definitely! Spectators are welcome to come down, cheer you on and enjoy the spectacle. It’s going to be quite the show.
Will this be an official Guinness World Record attempt?
We’ll be aiming to beat the standing record of 333 bagpipers set in Bulgaria in 2012. While we’re working toward official recognition, the focus is on bringing the community together for a record-breaking moment in Melbourne’s music history.
