Join Slow Art Collective in creating the Takenoko Weave House, an ever-changing art installation, designed for collaborative weaving and music-making.
Crafted from simple, sustainable materials including bamboo and recycled yarn, the pavilion is an interactive artwork you can help create. ‘Takenoko’ translates to ‘a bamboo shoot’ in Japanese, while also holding connotations of young children, full of energy.
The Takenoko Weave House will be a vibrant space where friends and strangers will get together and take part in an evolving world of colour, pattern and sound.
Drop in anytime during the school holidays or sign up for our special workshops with the artists.
In these interactive workshops you’ll learn creative weaving techniques like tying, finger knitting, macrame and knot-tying, plus learn how to make your very own structure out of skewers and small dowel. The workshops will end with a communal music-making session; using improvised instruments you’ll bring the Takenoko Weave House to life.
About Slow Art Collective
Led by Chaco Kato and Dylan Martorell, Slow Art Collective explores environmental sustainability, material ethics, DIY culture, and collaboration. Their work is focused on the journey and the act of making, rather than the outcome. It is about the slow absorption of culture through community connections, creating together, and blurring the boundary between the artists and the audience.
