These school holidays, kids and families can follow the Nature Trail around Fed Square to spot some of the critters that share the city with us! Pick up your activity sheet in the Atrium, follow the clues and map to discover the hidden word. When you’ve cracked the code word, scan the QR code on the back of the map to let us know what word you found, for your chance to win some great prizes.

Kids can get on step machines to join in Bupa’s Healthy Cities step challenge – and learn the value of regular movement and exercise in staying healthy. Every 1,000 steps = a native plant.

Back for its third year, the Big Toy Swap is a free community event empowering families to keep toys out of landfill and in the hands of kids who will love them. Sessions are free but require bookings.

September 19 is World Batman Day, so we’re celebrating by screening some of your fave animated and live action Batman films over three afternoons. We’re screening the 60th anniversary of Batman: The Movie, and the animated classics Batman Mask of the Phantasm and The LEGO Batman Movie. Dress up (if you like!), grab a deckchair, and settle in for the bat-ride.

As part of their Kids’ Flicks With Feelings curated film program, ACMI is screening two thoughtful Studio Ghibli films these school holidays, Whisper of the Heart (during the first week of the school holidays) and The Cat Returns (during the second week). These films offer personal and otherworldly adventures with heroines taking the lead.

Spanning four decades of Japanese anime filmmaking, this season places female protagonists firmly at the centre of their stories. Program includes Millenium Actress, Belle, The Colours Within and Angel’s Egg.

These school holidays we’re screening a trio of beloved and award-winning 90s family-friendly adventure films featuring stories of human and animal connection with an environmental message at their heart: Free Willy (1993), Flipper (1996) and Fly Away Home (1996).

Suitable for: ages 6+, designed for an adult to participate alongside their children

In this hands-on workshop, highly respected Brabrawoolong Gunnai artist Ray Thomas will introduce participants to some of the totems, symbols and stories that inform his own artistic practice. Drawing inspiration from the layered imagery found throughout Ray’s work, participants will explore storytelling and creative expression through stencilling, printmaking and airbrushing.

From award-winning interactive theatre company Polyglot Theatre, Paper Planet is a magical, child-led experience where families use paper, tape and imagination to transform a forest of cardboard trees into a growing world of creatures, plants and stories. 

Suitable for: Years 7–9 (morning session) and years 10–12 (afternoon session).
