Recognising excellence in Australian design, the Rigg Design Prize is the highest accolade for contemporary design in Australia. A generous legacy of the late Colin Rigg, a former secretary of the NGV’s Felton Bequests’ Committee and Cicely Rigg, the triennial prize is awarded to an Australian design practice displaying outstanding creative achievements in contemporary design.
The ninth edition of the NGV’s Rigg Design Prize is poised to present the important creative design work of Australian advertising and creative communications agencies. Advertising permeates every facet of our lives from the built environment to the digital devices we carry. Seeking to influence and change the behaviour of people and society, the creative discipline of advertising draws on the power of emotion and storytelling through to the strategic design of audiovisual campaigns.
Australian advertising agencies attract some of the most creative minds from the disciplines of graphics, typography and communications design, as well as digital media, film, psychology, and creative writing.
Drawing attention to the work of this vibrant creative community, the Rigg Design Prize 2022 will present an exhibition created by eight of Australia’s top agencies. The exhibition will challenge these eight teams to use their creative skills to change people’s behaviour for the better.
The eight agencies include Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, DDB Group Melbourne, Frost*collective, Gilimbaa, Leo Burnett Australia, TBWA\Melbourne, The Royals and Thinkerbell.
The theme of the 2022 exhibition will be ‘Creative Potential’ asking each agency to develop a campaign and suite of creative assets that highlights, clarifies or celebrates the extent to which design and creativity shape who we are and the world we live in.
