Young women and gender-diverse people should grow up believing anything is possible – that they have opportunities in their lives to shape the world they live in. This International Day of the Girl, in partnership with Plan International Australia we are bringing together leading activists, artists and thought-leaders to imagine how democracy in Australia can deliver for young people.

Following the May 2022 election, Australia has its most diverse parliament ever. But representation is not only about “who” is in parliament, it is also about “how” these representatives are empowered to push forward the interests of the diverse groups they represent.

Join us to discuss and build a youth agenda to guide the work of our new government and our Youth Minister, Anne Aly.

Speakers include:

  • Kira Puru, musician
  • Angelica Ojinnaka, UN Youth Representative 2022
  • Ashleigh Streeter-Jones, Founder and CEO of Raise Our Voice Australia
  • Amelia Telford, National Director of the Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network
  • Aurelia St Claire (MC)

This event is hosted by Federation Square and Plan International Australia. PIA is the charity for girls’ equality. PIA tackle the root causes of poverty, support communities through crisis, campaign for gender equality, and help governments do what’s right for children and particularly for girls. They are here to ignite the creativity, talent and ideas of girls in all their diversities. They are informed by evidence, and always learning.
