Learn some basic skills, refresh your thinking and reinvent the way you do things – for more sustainable living. 

Get your hands dirty in the garden, learn how to reduce your food waste and how to help attract bees and other pollinators to your garden or balcony.  

Workshops will be delivered by CERES educators and Rooftop Bees, the team behind our very own Re-bee our Community rooftop beehives.

Workshops will run every 30 minutes with presentations and interactive elements. There will also be time at the end of each session to ask questions.  

Arrive between 10.30am and 11.30am to collect a free coffee from NGV Cafe. Password: “RESET” to claim your coffee.

Introduction to Beekeeping

Learn about the magical world of bees and how to keep bees at home, in this introductory workshop. You’ll taste a range of honeys, discover how beeswax can be used around the home and roll your very own beeswax candle. If you’re interested in seeing the Rooftop Bees, ensure you book in for the Rooftop Bee Tour (places limited!). 

Understanding Soils

An introduction to the fascinating world of soil biology and what it means for home gardeners. This workshop with cover interesting facts and practical tips, the basics of soil biology and how to build organic matter.  

Gardening in Small Spaces 

This interactive workshop will show you how to avoid common planting pitfalls, so you’ll be set for success. Includes tips for choosing what to plant where, what to look for with pots and potting mix and easy veggies that anyone can grow. Perfect for the apartment gardener.  

Composting

Be inspired to find the right home composting method for you. Discover the impact food scraps have on our environment and ways to reduce these impacts at homecreating super-charged, super healthy compost to enrich your urban soil! 

Pickling at Home 

Make and take-home pickled vegetables, such as carrots, radishes and beetroot. This workshop includes a quick pickling explanation and education about why pickling vegetables is a great idea to help reduce food waste. 

Growing Nutrient Dense Foods

Learn about nutrient dense foods with a demonstration on sprouting seeds to increase their nutrition content. While exploring the top 3 food plants to grow at home for higher nutrition from our veggie gardens.
