Getting There

Two new beehives and Bee Cam – join in the journey as we bring honeybees to live on Fed Square’s rooftop.

The humble honeybee is a big hero. As they busily buzz around, these tiny environmental crusaders help to pollinate plants and improve biodiversity.

Fed Square has joined Team Bee – by hosting beehives on the rooftops of Fed Square, we join a global urban beehive movement to help save bees from threats posed by disease and human habitation and to raise community awareness about critical environmental and sustainability issues.

Fed Square’s honeybees will fly up to 5km from their hive (as the bee flies), foraging for nectar, propolis, pollen and water, and playing a critical role in pollinating the backyards, botanical gardens, community gardens and public spaces in a total area footprint of 78.5km². This has a direct effect on improving the biodiversity in our local community.

Fed Square’s rooftop hive will open on Thursday 7 September. A ‘Bee Cam’ will be installed, with a live feed to our website, allowing you to check out what’s abuzz in our hives whenever you like.

For big bee-fans, you can also book into one of our Re-bee our Community rooftop beehive tours, where you can see the working beehives in action.
