Outdoor cinema: Jaws 50th anniversary watch party

Screen
Free

Celebrate a landmark of Hollywood cinema – experience Spielberg’s Jaws together on the Big Screen, free at the Square.

Marking the 50th anniversary of Jaws (1975) – the film that redefined Hollywood cinema and established Steven Spielberg as one of the most influential directors of his generation – this special screening pays tribute to a masterpiece that continues to shape film culture.

When a seaside town is gripped by terror after a great white shark attacks, the resulting pursuit becomes a masterclass in tension, character and control. With unforgettable performances from Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw, and John Williams’ Oscar-winning score that still echoes through popular culture, Jaws remains a benchmark of cinematic craft and storytelling innovation.

Winner of three Academy Awards – for editing, sound and score – Jaws transformed not only the thriller genre but also the entire landscape of Hollywood, inventing the concept of the summer blockbuster. Now, decades later, its power to thrill, unsettle and unite audiences endures.

Settle into a deckchair or bring your own rug or chair as the film unfolds on the Fed Square Big Screen. Popcorn, drinks and snacks will be available from the ACMI Café food cart beside the ACMI entrance in the Main Square, and the first 300 guests will enjoy free soft-serve ice-cream.

All are welcome to experience this milestone in screen history – a defining work that continues to ripple through film culture.

This screening will have burnt in captions.
