Is Fed Square being closed during the Olympics and Paralympics?
Fed Square is managing public access to the Square during the Matildas matches at the Paris Olympics 2024, details of which are below:
- 26 July, kick-off at 3am, Australia v Germany
- 29 July, kick-off at 3am, Australia v Zambia
- 1 August, kick-off at 3am, Australia v United States
If the Matildas make it beyond the group stage of the competition, access restrictions will be in place for the remaining Matildas matches.
Fed Square will otherwise be open to the public as per normal throughout the Olympics and Paralympics and will be operating as a live site for these competitions.
How is access to Fed Square being restricted?
Fencing is being set up around Fed Square for these events with the Atrium entrance on Flinders Street being the sole point of entrance for attendees. Anyone wishing to access Fed Square for these events will be directed to this entrance.
When will Fed Square be fenced off?
Fed Square will be fenced off on the following dates and times, in line with the Matildas matches:
- 25 July, 11.30pm – 26 July, 5am
- 28 July, 11.30pm – 29 July, 5am
- 31 July, 11.30pm – 1 August, 5am
If the Matildas make it beyond the group stage of the competition, access restrictions will be in place for the remaining Matildas matches.
How do I access Fed Square for the Matildas games?
The Atrium entrance on Flinders Street will be the sole point of entrance for attendees. Anyone wishing to access Fed Square for these events will be directed to this entrance.
Why do I need a ticket?
Fed Square is introducing a ticketing system alongside the fencing of the Square to better manage crowd sizes and the overall visitor experience for these events.
How much do tickets cost?
Tickets for the events are completely free. Tickets cannot be resold.
How many tickets can I book?
There is a limit of four (4) tickets per transaction.
Do I need to print my ticket?
No, you only need to have your ticket on your phone to show upon entry.
I haven’t pre-booked a ticket, can I get one at Fed Square?
Tickets can be booked via this link at any time in advance of or during the event. QR codes with a link to the ticketing site will also be located at the Atrium entrance into Fed Square. Ticket availability is subject to capacity.
What is the process for getting into Fed Square?
The Atrium entrance on Flinders Street will be the sole point of entrance for attendees. Anyone wishing to access Fed Square for these events will be directed to this entrance.
At the entrance you will be asked to show your ticket to a member of staff and will also be subjected to a bag check prior to entry as part of the Conditions of Entry. Once you have entered the Atrium you can access the Main Square via the lift or stairs the southern end of the Atrium.
From what time will access to Fed Square be restricted?
Access to Fed Square will be restricted from 11:30pm on the following days:
Any members of the public in Fed Square at this time will be asked to leave and invited to re-enter with a ticket when the site opens for the event.
If the Matildas make it beyond the group stage of the competition, access restrictions times will be communicated ahead of time.
From what time can I access Fed Square with my ticket?
Ticket holders will be able to access Fed Square from 1:30am on the following event days:\

Is there anything I am not allowed to bring?
The following items are not allowed to be brought into Fed Square during these events:
- Alcohol
- Cigarettes and vapes
- Illicit substances
- Glass containers
- Aerosols of any type
- Drones or unmanned aerial vehicles
- Portable tables, tents or sun shelters
- Flares or any other missiles or projectiles
- Dangerous or inappropriate items including weapons and laser pointers
- Bags of 40 litre capacity or greater
- Promotional items intended for resale
- Large flags and banners
- Umbrellas
The above list is not exhaustive and you may be asked to not bring in other items identified during bag checks.
If you have brought an item or items that are prohibited you will be able to dispose of these at the Atrium entrance without any repercussions.
What happens if I bring in an item or items that are not allowed?
If you bring an item that is not allowed within Fed Square you will be asked to dispose of the item or items prior to being permitted entry. If you refuse to dispose of the item or items entry will be refused entry as per our Conditions of Entry.
If you are found to have brought an item or items not allowed once you are in Fed Square you may be asked to dispose of the item or items or be escorted from the site. You may also face police prosecution.
Will you be conducting bag checks?
Yes, bag checks will be conducted when entering Fed Square for these events.
Are there any age restrictions for these events?
Children under the age of 15 must be under the supervision of a responsible adult (18 years of age or older) at all times when attending these events.
For children aged 15 years old or over, parental discretion should be exercised regarding whether they can attend these events without supervision.
How can I get to Fed Square for the Matildas matches?
Given the times of the events there may not be public transport options to Fed Square but you should check at ptv.vic.gov.au. The Fed Square car park will be operating during these events and can be accessed via Batman Avenue and Russell Street Extension. You can pre-book your parking at the Fed Square car park here.
I have accessibility issues, how do I enter?
The Atrium entrance on Flinders Street will be the sole point of entrance for attendees. Anyone wishing to access Fed Square for these events will be directed to this entrance.
There is a lift providing access from the Atrium to the Main Square and a dedicated pathway will be in place within the Main Square to gain access to an accessible viewing area for the events.
Is there a crowd size at which no more people will be admitted to Fed Square during these matches?
Yes, there is a capacity for these events beyond which no further entry will be allowed. Once we have reached capacity tickets will no longer be available and no further patrons will be admitted regardless if they have a ticket.
Will there be seating available for attendees?
There will be limited deck chair seating available on a first come first serve basis within the Main Square during these events.
Can I bring my own seating?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own portable seating. Please bear in mind that crowd sizes may make the use of seating impractical.
How can I exit Fed Square at the end of the event?
There will be gates at various point around Fed Square that can be used to exit the Square at the end of the event.
If I leave and wish to come back in during one of the matches, how can I do so?
If you wish to leave during the event you will be able to do so via Gate 4, located near to the Swanston Street and Flinders Street corner of the site, or Gate 8, located near to Transport Hotel. Pass outs will be available from Gates 4 & 8.
