Nongkrong – Pasar Senja (twilight fair)

Nongkrong is a festival curated by a network of Indonesian-Australians dedicated to creating spaces for their diaspora to connect, maintain ties to their homeland(s), and cultivate their collective identity. Nongkrong translates to ‘hanging out’: the intentional, open-ended time spent with others.

Nongkrong events creatively explore and celebrate the in-between identities of Indonesian-Australians through food, arts and dialogue. Nongkrong’s production team is intergenerational and intercultural, engaging new migrants, long-term residents, and those born in Indonesia, Australia, or elsewhere.

By both honouring traditions and building upon them, Nongkrong aims to nurture a sense of belonging, amplify the diverse experiences within the Indonesian-Australian community, and reimagine what it means to be Australian-Indonesian on unceded Aboriginal Land.

Ali

Ali is a musical project originating from Jakarta, Indonesia, initiated by John Paul Patton and Arswandaru Cahyo. Ali incorporates Middle Eastern culture with elements of 70s Indonesian rock, cinematic soul, Afro beat, funk and disco to create a new groove and all-new sound. With lyrics sung in Arabic, Ali builds on the influence of Middle Eastern art and music, which over centuries has assimilated itself deep into Indonesian culture and way of life. Middle Eastern beats with a South-East Asian twist – Ali promises a unique experience of the melting pot of influences present in contemporary Indonesian music.

Suara Dance

Suara Dance is Australia’s leading Indonesian dance and music company based in the Inner West of Sydney. Suara Dance presents an energetic mix of dance, body percussion and song, with a blend of traditional and contemporary influences.This group brings liveliness, rhythm colour, and heritage to their performances.

Candra Darusman ft Lemes

Candra Darusman is an iconic Indonesian jazz musician, singer-songwriter, and a driving force behind Indnonesia’s Pop Kreatif movement. Famous for his smooth vocals and genre-blending work with Chaseiro and Karimata, Candra has spent decades shaping the soundtrack of modern Indonesia—onstage and behind the scenes as a champion for musicians’ rights.

For this special performance, he teams up with Lemes Band—a vibrant collective of young Indonesian musicians known for flipping classic Indonesian hits on their heads with playful, colourful, and wildly creative arrangements. Expect nostalgia, groove, and a fresh twist on songs you thought you already knew.

Komang

Komang is a Balinese-Australian singer, music producer and art worker based in Naarm (Melbourne) who creates lush alternative R&B described as ‘neo-soul with Balinese spirit’. Her music weaves together the contemporary and traditional with stories of kinship and spirit, and has seen her perform on stages such as Boiler Room Festival (Bali), Now or Never, Sun Cycle, NGV Friday Nights and We Out Here Festival (UK) as well as featured on hit shows like Heartbreak High (Netflix) and Love Me (Binge).

Stale Biskitz

Poppin Jack & Keanu are core members of Stale Biskitz, one of Australia’s longest standing street dance crews focused on the style of Popping. They have performed, taught and studied at numerous international events from the USA to Europe and throughout Asia. Both dancers are brothers of mixed Javanese background, and continue to explore their artistry through practice, research and dance.

Matahara

Matahara is the solo project helmed by Marissa Yudinar (she/her) – an independent artist from Naarm via Jakarta. The 24-year-old artist creates forward-thinking bedroom pop that lives in a world of its own and gives light and warmth to everyone around her.
