The annual Flag Raising Ceremony marks the official beginning of NAIDOC Week in Victoria, bringing together community members to honour the strength, survival, and ongoing cultural legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This powerful event pays tribute to enduring connections to Culture, Country, and Language, and serves as a public acknowledgment of the significance of NAIDOC Week.

This year, the morning will begin with a cultural ceremony at Camp Sovereignty from 8:00am. All are warmly invited to attend and to accompany the flame from Camp Sovereignty to Federation Square.

Once at Federation Square, as part of the official proceedings, there will be a minute of silence in memory of those who have passed and all Ancestors who have fought for the survival of our people and cultures.

The ceremony concludes with the raising of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags along Swanston Street – a powerful symbol of pride, resistance, and enduring presence.
