Musica Viva: Ken Murray

Performer, composer, recording artist and teacher Ken Murray is one of Australia’s foremost scholars of the classical guitar, whose CD Singing Stones has just been released by ABC Classics. Join Musica Viva for an hour of sounds, stillness and delight as he introduces audiences to some of his favourite works, ranging from dances from sixteenth-century Spain to sound sketches evoking the landscapes of France, Italy and Australia.

Ken will also play tracks from Singing Stones, which features the music of fellow guitarist and composer Christopher Sainsbury, whose stunning opera, The Visitors, had its premiere with Victorian Opera in 2023. Listen to the haunting Simple Truths and lose yourself in this First Nations composer’s 2008 work Labyrinth. Then emerge, refreshed and inspired, in time for a leisurely lunch at Fed Square, Melbourne’s cultural playground.
