Join Nornie and Nico, two powerhouse female First Nations chefs collaborating for the first time exclusively for MFWF. Over a feast of 5 courses at Big Esso by Mabu Mabu, Nornie and Nico will share personal stories about their food culture and journey. This unique dinner is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to listen in depth to the stories of these two chefs’ stories of how they brought their traditional dishes and native ingredients to the mainstream.
Nornie Bero is an Island girl from the Komet Tribe of the Meriam people in the Torres Strait and is on a mission to make native ingredients the hero of the Australian kitchen. Nico Albert Williams (ᏣᎳᎩᎯ ᎠᏰᎵ Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) is a chef, caterer and student of traditional Indigenous cuisines. In this very special festival event, you’ll have the chance to meet two chefs championing the wider understanding of Indigenous foodways, in a one-off collaboration that sees the rare meeting of Cherokee and Torres Strait Islander cuisines.
Nico Albert Williams is visiting Australia with the assistance of the US Department of State.
