Founded in a time of crisis in the LGBTQIA+ community, the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus is the southern hemisphere’s first-ever coalitionist community choir in this vein, and strives to create a supportive, welcoming environment for all members while producing top-shelf musical excellence.
Their importance in the cultural weave of Melbourne cannot be overstated.
The Mel’Bones were formed nearly 40 years ago and, under the leadership of Don Jordan, have enchanted Melbournians ever since with music performed on trombones alone.
The performance on December 12th is inspired by the wish to perform “76 Trombones” (from the 1957 Broadway musical “The Music Man”) on 76 trombones – the largest trombone group ever assembled in Melbourne!
In addition, the group will play Christmas songs and carols, and be joined by bagpipes to play “Amazing Grace”.
The 76 Mel’Bones will perform from 5:30 pm -6:15 pm, and the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus will sing from 6:30 pm -7:30 pm.
That’s 12 December on the main stage – and, of course, entry is absolutely free and all are welcome to attend. Be there!
