Explore how Melbourne can become a true 15-minute city for a more sustainable and accessible future.
A 15-minute city is one where residents can access most daily necessities—work, shopping, education, healthcare, and leisure—within a 15-minute walk, bike ride, or public transit trip from home. Currently, Melbourne is rated a 17-minute city, but what would it take to reduce that time? Inspired by Carlos Moreno’s concept, explored in In The 15-Minute City: A Solution for Saving Our Time and Our Planet, this discussion will examine the services, transport, and infrastructure needed to create a more sustainable, accessible, and liveable city. Hosted by Russel Howcroft, with speakers including City of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece, urban futurist Lucinda Hartley, Associate Professor Crystal Legacy (Urban Planning, University of Melbourne), and designer and video storyteller Julian O’Shea.
Melbourne Conversations is presented by City of Melbourne in partnership with Fed Square.
