<h2>Celebrate Lunar New Year with a vibrant feast of performance and culture.</h2>
Lunar New Year is an important celebration for billions of people across the world, which celebrates the beginning of the Lunisolar calendar. In the Chinese zodiac, 2025 will be the Year of the Snake.
Head to Fed Square for a free day of activities and cultural performances for the whole family. The program features dance, martial arts and traditional and contemporary music from China, Vietnam, Korea and Malaysia.

<li>12pm – Tai Chi: Find your centre with a graceful Tai Chi session to start your afternoon.</li>
<li>12.45pm – Gentle Chinese Dance: Experience the elegance of Chinese dance.</li>
<li>1.30pm – Vovinam &amp; Songs of Vietnam: Witness the powerful art of Vietnamese martial arts, paired with soulful traditional songs.</li>
<li>2pm – Lion Dance: Feel the energy as the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne brings the Lion Dance to life with drumming, acrobatics, and colour!</li>
<li>2.15pm – Malaysian Contemporary Performance: Dive into the modern beats and traditional influences of Malaysia’s rich culture.</li>
<li>3pm – Dragon Dance: Get swept up in the excitement of the iconic Dragon Dance, performed by the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne.</li>
<li>3.15pm – Korean Traditional Sori Performance: Be mesmerised by the soulful melodies of Korea’s traditional Sori songs.</li>
<li>3.45pm – AO K-POP Dance: End the day with high-energy K-POP dance hits performed by local K-POP dance group, the AO Crew!</li>

This summer, Melbourne will once again come alive with the vibrant energy of the Afro-Caribbean Carnival.
This free celebration of Afro-Caribbean music, food, costume and sound-system culture, features performances from two international superstars.
The legendary Kevin Lyttle, a fan favourite in Burn City, will hit the stage to ‘Turn You On’ once again. Joining him is UK’s Solo Banton who will bring the dub, soundsystem and reggae vibes to carnival, fresh off the back of his latest full-length album release, In This Time.
The heart of Melbourne will pulse with the power of three heavyweight DIY sound systems, filling the air with beats that you’ll hear long before you see them. Expect towering sound systems, some standing as tall as three meters, from El Gran Mono, Heartical Hi Powa, and Housewife&#8217;s Choice Sound System. Their music will transform the Square into a celebration of rhythm, culture and community.
Get ready to dance alongside hundreds of carnival lovers decked out in vibrant costumes – grab yours from <a href="https://www.mcccostumes.com.au">MC Costumes</a> and join in the colourful parade.
Whether you&#8217;re from Australia or visiting from abroad, everyone is invited to immerse themselves in this rich Afro-Caribbean experience.
This event is completely free, so mark your calendars and don’t miss the celebration. All tribes are welcome – no tickets, no fees, just pure musical joy.

Free open-air events celebrating Melbourne’s diverse communities and culture.
The Square will become a vibrant hub for community festivals and cultural celebrations as part of Open Air at the Square, with events for Lunar New Year, Midsumma Festival, the Nepalese Festival and the launch of NGV Kids Summer Festival.
Let your ears take you on a journey as the Square is activated with pop-up performances, featuring an eclectic mix of acoustic music sets from international and local musicians.
And we’ve asked some of our favourite local DJs to curate playlists for us, which we’ll be playing each arvo in the Square – bringing you the fresh sounds of Open Air at the Square.

Celebrate Lunar New Year with two nights of back-to-back martial arts action classics, featuring the master of Hong Kong Kung Fu cinema. 
Catch action hero and martial artist Lee in the 1972 Fist of Fury, and follow it up with the 1972 action-comedy (also produced and directed by Lee) Way of the Dragon.   
Bring a picnic and gather a group to celebrate the Year of the Snake with these classics of Hong Kong Kung Fu cinema, free on the Big Screen! 

There will be a limited number of deck chairs available for each screening but you may bring your own chair if you wish.
