Honouring the Year of the Snake through dance, film and art.
Join us at Fed Square for the screening of Sediment, a striking moving image work by Naarm/ Melbourne-based artist Jen Valender. This film features aeolian harp-sculptures crafted from antique surveyors’ tripods, played by the wind and activated by Australian pythons. The artwork captures an unfiltered sonic dialogue between land, weather and serpent, creating an elemental performance where the landscape itself becomes a collaborator.
To mark the Year of the Snake, the Gentle Chinese Dancing Troupe will present a special performance, blending traditional and contemporary movement in response to Sediment. Each dancer will perform with a bespoke folding fan made by Valender, featuring imagery from the film. Just as wind breathes sound into the harps, the fans symbolise shifting climates and the fluidity of nature’s forces.
