A hands-on workshop providing a creative space for reflection, connection and release, led by local community-rooted creative platforms hey.raco and Akres.
Crash out and reflect in this Junk Journalling workshop – a space to step away from the digital and the doomscolling, get messy, and ground yourself in something tactile and real.
Working from a shared prompt, you’ll collage and cut and crash-out onto the page. No experience needed, no pressure to make it pretty. This is about the act of making as a form of release: feeling it, sitting with it, and slowly finding shape in the chaos.
As we move into spring, this workshop holds space for themes of transmutation and rebirth. Shedding what the winter months carried and meeting the warmer season with a little more clarity.
Junk journals are the perfect medium for this kind of work: imperfect, layered, honest. Built from scraps, offcuts and other repurposed materials, they hold whatever you bring to them.
Come create in a collective community. Leave with a journal that’s yours and maybe feel a little lighter than when you arrived.

About the Artists
Originally from Belgium, Mwamb is a Naarm-based multidisciplinary artist and producer specialising in creative collaboration and cultural exchange. As the founder of artist workshop incubator Akres Arts, Mwamb designs experiential programs that bridge the gap between institutions and independent practitioners. Her portfolio spans event production at Fenton Farmhouse, visual art exhibitions at Capers, Honey Bones Gallery and TROU Gallery. Mwamb co-directs Nyota Owethu, a music collective which has staged diasporic events at Collingwood Yards,The Toff, Schoolhouse Studios and Little Homey.
Designer and researcher whose practice explores transformation as a form of creative healing, combining hands-on making with research into circular and regenerative fashion systems. Through community workshops and industry collaborations, Raco connects people with the skills and confidence to repair, upcycle and reimagine textiles. The work spans community education, material innovation and industry collaboration, focusing on empowering individuals to engage with fashion in a more considered way. From local workshops to large-scale programs, Raco creates spaces where creativity, sustainability and personal storytelling come together through the act of making.
