Jazz in the Square returns this year celebrating International Jazz Day 2023 with anotherjam-packed day of jazz in the centre of Melbourne at Federation Square on Saturday April 29.

Jazz in the Square celebrates the richness and diversity of the Australian jazz community.

The Edge will come alive from 1pm with Melbourne’s finest emerging and established jazz artists such as:
Salvo Bigband
Origami with Wang Zheng-Ting
Kennedy Snow
Paul Williamson’s Hammond Combo
ZĂ–J
Aaron Choulai Trio

Melbourne Conservatorium Of Music Jazz & Improvisation Department are a key partner for the event, presenting a mixture of large and small ensembles led by staff (sessional and continuing) during the day.

The inaugural evening gala presentation will commence at 7:30pm and feature the sublime improvised sounds of ZÖJ (Gelareh Pour and Brian O’Dwyer). Following them, pianist Aaron Choulai – recently appointed as Artistic Director for the Australian Art Orchestra and returned from living in Japan – will conclude with his trio featuring Tamara Murphy and James McLean.
