2022 marks the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, and we have planned just the day to make it an epic celebration.
From 10:30AM: The Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev, and Bollywood superstar Abhishek Bachchan will hoist the Indian flag up high in the beautiful Melbourne sky. Jana Gana Mana and Advance Australia Fair will be sung with pride and patriotism as we celebrate India’s Independence with dance, music and colour, embracing Melbourne’s multiculturalism with people from all ethnicities and all walks of life.
From 11:30AM: The energy and emotion of the flag hoisting will continue with the super-exciting and energetic IFFM Dance Competition! Dancers of all ages and backgrounds, from all over Victoria will bring their A-game to impress the superstar judges Tamannaah Bhatia and Maria Thattil. With great prizes on offer and a star-studded judges’ panel, join us for a fun-filled event!
From 3PM: The day of fun continues as we screen ’83 and Badhaai Do, two critically acclaimed Bollywood films. Get ready to cheer aloud as ’83 will take you through the legendary Kapil Dev’s journey leading the Indian National cricket team to victory in the 1983 World Cup.
From 6PM: To amp up the energy levels even more, we have Badhaai Do, wherein a gay man and a lesbian woman marry each other to make their families happy. A story about LGBTIQA+ acceptance in the Indian context, this movie will make you laugh, cry, and keep you entertained for sure!
