As part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), join festival guest Aamir Khan for celebrations, film screenings and in conversation events across two days.
Global star Aamir Khan will raise the Indian national flag as part of the IFFM Independence Day Celebrations at Fed Square, followed by the return of the Remitly IFFM Dance Competition, and a free open-air screening of a curated selection of Aamir Khan’s films across four decades. Independence Day will be full of celebration and pride, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of India and the subcontinent on a global stage.
IFFM also presents two In Conversation events with Aamir Khan and other legends of Indian film.

Join legendary star Aamir Khan as the Indian national flag is raised to celebrate Indian Independence Day.
After the flag hoisting, watch as the Fed Square stage lights up with the Remitly IFFM Dance Competition, bringing together dancers from across Australia in a vibrant celebration of movement, culture and community. Celebrated Bollywood icon and dancer, Malaika Arora, and casting director and filmmaker, Mukesh Chhambra, are this year’s celebrity judges. Each year, the competition sees performers of all ages and styles, from Bollywood and hip hop to classical and folk, light up the stage with passion and creativity. It’s a powerful showcase of talent and diversity. The competition invites communities to come together in a joyful celebration of dance and cultural pride.
Free, open-air screenings of Aamir Khan’s most acclaimed films on the Big Screen. Watch a curated selection of the films that have defined his legacy as a cinematic legend with sensitivity, depth, and a fearless commitment to true storytelling. Including Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar(1992), Lagaan (2001), Taare Zameen Par (2007) and Dangal (2016).
