Fed Square and Deakin University invites you to last year’s David Parkin Oration, inside the Deakin Edge. First among equals by cycling legend, Mr Cadel Evans AM in conversation with Sports Broadcaster and Journalist, Mr Gerard Whateley.
The annual Oration, which honours the significant contribution of Dr David Parkin OAM to Australian society in leadership, sport and education and promotes the advancement of public knowledge by exploring the challenges and opportunities for sport to act as a driver of social change.
Cadel Evans Biography:
A four-time Olympian, Cadel Evans is the first and only Australian to win the Tour de France and the UCI Road World Championships and top the UCI ProTour ranking. Mr Evans has played a key role in driving the growth in popularity of cycling and works actively to promote awareness of the importance of living a healthy lifestyle as well as improving rider safety on our roads. He is an Ambassador for the Amy Gillett Foundation committed to reducing the incidence of serious injury and death of cyclists.
Gerard Whateley Biography:
Gerard Whateley is one of Australia’s most emotive, knowledgeable and acclaimed sport media specialists, setting the sporting agenda as host of Whateley on Melbourne radio station 1116 SEN and Fox Footy’s AFL 360.
