Christmas Launch

Celebrate the first lighting of the City’s Christmas tree, the opening of Christmas Square at Fed Square and the launch of the City of Melbourne’s Christmas Festival, with face-painting, performance, music and Christmas magic.

Each year, the first lighting of the Christmas tree hearkens the beginning of the festive season in Melbourne. Join in this special, free celebration!

Christmas Square is presented by the City of Melbourne, in partnership with Fed Square.

Christmas Square is lighting up with 100% wind powered Christmas cheer.

Launch Event program:

6.30pm – Festivities commence, with free face-painting and roving entertainment and a merry DJ set
7.10pm – Experience a As Camp as Christmas choir performance by Consort of Melbourne
7.30pm – another merry DJ set
8pm – The Huxleys roving performance
8.10pm – Experience a camp as choir performance by Consort of Melbourne
8.30pm – Official proceedings commence on stage
8:55pm – Lumiere from the Beauty & the Beast musical welcomes you to “Be Our Guest” with a special performance
9pm – The Christmas Tree lights up!
