What were you doing in 1984?
One music educator and performer, Kevin Casey, founder of the National Boys Choir, did something pretty amazing in 1984 – he formed a girls choir. Soon after, the organisation Choral Institute Melbourne – CHIME – was established, and the Chime choirs grew and thrived. His passion for musical excellence and community was a flame passed to the choir and its committee, kept burning through the years by Artistic Directors Jayne Turner, Marten Visser and now, Jenny Mathers.
It’s now 2024. Chime Choir is still here. Some of their choristers are original members from the very first ensembles! Chime have evolved; together they have learned, toured and shared life. Most importantly, their community is still singing, learning and having fun.
Celebrate this incredible milestone at Chime Choir’s 40th Anniversary Gala at The Edge. Featuring an expo exploring their cherished history, Chime Choir, the Chime Alumni Choir, and special guest conductors, Chime’s 40th Anniversary Gala will be a stunning celebration of their community and 40 years of music-making.
