Fed Square and Gaba Musik present the Morning Star Ceremony, a presentation of First Nations dancers, musicians and activists from Arnhem Land, Torres Strait, Timor Leste, Maori, PNG and West Papua standing in solidarity as First Nations people from this part of the world.
The Morning Star songline is one of the oldest living songlines on earth, connecting skylore with Indigenous sovereignty, family and custodianship.
The Morning Star Ceremony will commence with a Call to Ceremony led by Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Joy Murphy, followed by Yolngu members of Yothu Yindi who will perform Banambirri (Morning Star), Timor Oan’s from Timor Leste, contemporary dancers from Torres Strait, Sprigga Mek from PNG, Hani Dread from Aotearoa, the Black Sistaz, Koteka Wenda from West Papua and members of the West Papua community.
The event will culminate with the Wisisi dance from Wamena West Papua, all are welcomed to join the Wisisi dance and procession from Fed Square to Alexandria Gardens, before the BLAKTIVISM concert.
