Aşık Veysel was a famous Turkish folk poet and musician. In 2023 UNESCO attributed this year to him, and declared 2023 as the year of Aşık Veysel all over the world.
He was born in 25 October 1894 in Şarkışla, Sıvas, Turkey. He lost his eyesight early in his childhood, and died in 1973, aged 79. He left behind countless poems and songs, acclaimed widely around the world. Concepts of happiness and sorrow, hope and despair, death and life, are harmoniously combined throughout his poetry.
His songs will be performed by Doga Melbourne for a very special peformance at Fed Square.
