Our Vision for Fed Square

Fed Square is a globally iconic destination and Melbourne’s gathering place, where visitors are immersed in unique cultural experiences and architecture that celebrate Victoria’s rich heritage and identity.

City CX: co-presented by Fed Square and Bicycle Network (2021)

In partnership with Bicycle Network, City CX is a one-day, high-energy, never-been-done-before cycling spectacle that’s taking place in the heart of Fed Square.

This unique urban cyclocross event is open to riders of all levels, comprising a short, technical CX course around the urban terrain of Fed Square and River Terrace.

Fed Oasis (2021)

Comfy seating and shaded areas? Tick. Order food from our cafes and restaurants, and have it delivered to you in the square? Tick. Live music on the stage, classic films, giveaways, daily meditation experiences and more? Tick, tick, and tick.

The public spoke; we listened: Fed Oasis is bringing comfy seating, shady umbrellas and plenty of (recycled, environmentally-friendly) astroturf to save the kiddies’ knees – somewhere soft to sit and soak up the surroundings has always been our most-requested addition, and with Fed Oasis it’s finally here.

And if that throat is a little thirsty once you’re seated comfortably, just whip out the phone and order food and drink from one of the many brilliants bars, cafes and restaurants around you – and the goods will be delivered to you right there in the square! Talk about gold-class (gold grass?) luxury – and combined with our sport, Friday fed-itation with Laughscape and movie schedule, there’s no better place to be for fun in the sun or a balmy evening out.

Virtual The Edge: Behind the Scenes at MEA Evolve (2020)

Evolve has been Renovated! Filmed live from The EdgeMEA enagaged and inspired the industry with its first ever virtual conference. The online conference had over 500 Australian event professionals attend.

Cartier Into The Wild (2020)

For the first time in Australia, the Cartier panther was on the prowl.

Into the Wild with Cartier explored the art, savoir faire and the untold story of the iconic Panthère de Cartier.

The public had a chance to see inside the mind of Jeanne Toussaint, the original Cartier Panthère, who revolutionized the sculptural jewellery industry and established the Panthère as the emblem of the Maison.

Australian Open (2020)

The Australian Open came to Fed Square, bringing 3 weeks’ worth of live music, ticket giveaways, kids’ activities, pop-up bars, food, drink and more – and, of course, front-row seats to Melbourne’s biggest screen.

The activation also had ticket booths, AO information and a fully-fledged merch store for all the fans – there was even free sunscreen!

Fed Beach (2020)

Fed Square transformed into Fed Beach: a vibrant, seaside resort with deckchairs and cabanas, free sliders and ice creams, live music, an open-air cinema screening cult summer films and a sandy beach!

Hot off the back of the Australian Open and right in the midst of Fed Square’s ongoing Summer of Sport, Fed Beach brought something unprecedented, new and exciting to the square for 2 weeks only.

Fed Beach comprised of 2 rows of deckchairs and 2 private cabanas, arrayed in front of a stylised beach, in addition to oversized deckchairs scattered throughout the square.

Inspired by the ultra-Instagram-friendly accommodation designs of Bali, Thailand, Miami and more, Fed Beach was designed for the public to show off their best self!

Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix Launch (2019)

To mark the start of the Formula 1 World Championship, Fed Square played host to the inaugural season launch event , ahead of the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

Fed Square came alive with the free Formula 1® extravaganza as all 20 drivers and all 10 Team Principals – along with legends of the sport – participated in a live stage show, bringing the heroes of Formula 1® to the public for the first time in the sport’s history.

This free public event gave fans the chance to engage with teams and drivers as they as they took part in a live stage show, bringing the heroes of Formula 1® closer to the fans. Fans were invited to watch the teams and drivers arrive and walk through the iconic square, recreating the famous Melbourne Walk, which is one of the symbols of the race at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.

The event attracted over 5000 people.

Sensory Underground (2019)

Fed Square hosted Melbourne’s most incredible dining experience – Sensory Underground: an immersive dining experience featuring Melbourne favourite Tokyo Tina.

The exclusive dining experience where art is to be heard, touched and tasted. Light, sound and human performance fused in an intoxicating cocktail of entertainment, all hosted in the secret undercroft deep beneath Fed Square.

The public entered through Platform 13, Flinders St Station where they found themselves in a secluded underground venue.

The event was completely sold out and ran for several weeks.

Little Food Festival (2019)

For two days during the September school holidays, kids were entertained for free with immersive and engaging demonstrations as part of the Little Food Festival.

The Little Food Festival was a celebration of all the ways young Victorians can address three of the greatest global challenges – climate change, health, and social connection – through the language of food.

The Little Food Festival was hosted by the Sandro Demaio Foundation, in partnership with Monash University and Fed Square.

Christmas Square

After a long year huddled indoors, Fed Square came out to play last December, in partnership with City of Melbourne.
