Getting There

Australia’s first and only food festival for kids! Where education, exploration and creativity come together for two exciting days of food-filled fun.

Join us we bring together a fantastic line-up of partners – Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, Oz Harvest, United African Farm, Bunnings, and more – along with hosts The Fruit Nerd and Costa for Australia’s first and only food festival for kids.

We have a once in a generation chance to help our kids understand that they have the power to change their future. Early childhood experiences profoundly change how our kids understand the world around them. And what we teach kids about good food, the foods items and the environment today, creates the building blocks for what their food habits will look like in the future.

The Little Food Festival is an opportunity to re-write what the future will look like for our kids and planet.

Little Food Festival Activation Zones

These school holidays, roll your sleeves up to plant seedlings, dive into the world of bush food, unleash your creativity in craft activities, master the art of preparing nutritious meals and more!

Little Food Festival 2024 is not just a great school holiday event; it’s an opportunity for kids to reimagine the future for themselves, their families, communities, and the planet.

Grow

Plant a lettuce, parsley or broccoli seedling with Bunnings to take home, play ‘What’s in the box’ with United African Farm and view a live observation beehive and taste some delicious honey with Rooftop Bees.

Move

Food has quite the journey before it lands on our plates – picked, collected, moved, sorted, graded, washed, and packed! Visit the OzHarvest van and discover what food sees before it sees you. You can also learn low far your favourite foods have travelled with Monash University in the Move zone.

Buy

What’s better than fresh and in-season wholefoods? Play the shopping game with The Community Grocer. You’ll earn grocery dollars to spend on real fruit and veg to take home.

Play the ugly food game with Monash University to discover why ‘ugly’ fruits and veggies help us cut down on food waste.

Cook

Cooking up a storm with fresh, seasonal goodies creates habits that last a lifetime. Whip up your own treat with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and create a jar of pickles to take home with Dillicious Pickles.

Eat

Eating isn’t just about fuelling up – it’s about feeling happier, healthier, and more connected. We share stories, laugh, and celebrate our cultures.

Join us at the Eat zone to recreate your food memories using play-doh.

Reuse

Creating healthy soil ensures we can grow fresh fruit, veggies and herbs, creating a circular food system that’s health and sustainable for people and planet. Discover the magic of worms and composting at the reuse zone.

You’ll also learn how to be a master recycler with Veolia.

Green My Plate

Thanks to the closed loop system from Green My Plate, we are proud to say the upcoming Little Food Festival will be a low waste event. All food vendors will be serving up their delicious food on the reusable Green My Plate plates and bowls which you then simply place into the pink bins within the venue. The team from Green My Plate will be continuously collecting the reusable plates and co to then wash and recirculate, leaving a cleaner footprint, and diverting single-use food packaging from landfill.

The process is simple. Simply head to your choice of food vendor, order up, then place your reusable plate in the pink bin.

The plates will be reused over and over at events across Victoria. We encourage and thank everyone for doing their part and assisting us with making dishes, not waste.
