OUR VISION FOR FED SQUARE

To be recognised internationally as a contemporary world site and Melbourne’s inspirational public space.

To manage and develop Fed Square to actively support and reflect Melbourne’s pre-eminent civic and cultural strengths.

Transport gets a new look for summer

The iconic Transport Hotel is looking better than ever after a multi-million dollar refurbishment.

Transport had a busy start to 2018, showing off its new look to the thousands of people visiting Fed Square for Arboria and the 7Tennis Australian Open Live Site.

The revamped hotel includes an expanded dining area, new bars, larger TV screens for playing sporting matches and a light-filled seating area overlooking Flinders Street Station.

“We’re excited about this next chapter and look forward to serving up some great hospitality in our new impressive space,” said Transport’s General Manager Tony Twitchett.

Transport has been with Federation Square since its inception in 2002, and has poured over 8.5 million beers in its 16 years of operation.

“Transport’s refurbishment is the first of many improvements in the square,” said Federation Square CEO Jonathan Tribe.

“In the coming months we will launch a digital art gallery on the Transport Building and Australia’s first Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. In 2020, we are expecting an additional 2 million visitors each year with the opening of the only Apple Global Flagship Store in the Southern Hemisphere.  These great events and activations will ensure that Fed Square remains a top of mind destination for Melburnians and visitors to our city.”

Federation Square is Victoria’s second most visited destination by international tourists.

Visit Victoria CEO Peter Bingeman said Transport has upped its game just in time for some of Melbourne’s biggest summer events.

“Federation Square is a key focal point for the city and the centrepiece for so many events in Melbourne, therefore upgrades like this will allow even more people to celebrate and enjoy this wonderful public space for many years to come.”

Located on the Yarra River, Transport Bar has become a Melbourne institution and a booming venue during major events such as the Australian Open.

“Federation Square is the main gateway to the Australian Open. We always believe there is value in activating public spaces for the enjoyment of community,” said Tennis Australia CEO and Tournament Director Craig Tiley.

Transport Hotel is open every day of the year, from 11am.
