We’re getting pretty excited about the Melbourne Writers Festival, commencing on 25 August. The program is jam-packed with inspiring events and lucky for us, Fed Square will be ‘the’ place to be as the Festival’s hub.
To make the most of your MWF experience, we have the perfect day mapped out for you. There’s no doubt in our minds that after following this itinerary, you will come away feeling inspired and brimming with ideas of your own.
Sunday 27 August, 2017 at Melbourne Writers Festival x Fed Square
3:30pm: You’ve arrived at Fed Square via bike, foot, car, or public transport. First things first, you definitely have to check out the Mapping Our Future City Interactive Exhibition. This is a journey of discovery exploring the future of infrastructure, technology, arts, environment and lifestyles. One of the highlights will be a virtual reality tour of the construction of the Metro Tunnel – we’ve all been curious, this is your chance to get a sneak peak!
4:40pm: You’ve probably worked up an appetite exploring our future city. Relax and refuel at one of our on-site cafes or restaurants. Many of them still have winter specials happening until the end of the month. Check them out.
MWF will also have a Festival Club at ACMI Cafe & Bar. Present your MWF ticket for a 10% discount of drinks and food.
6:15pm: Next up, there will be an amazing talk with Historian, Sean McMeekin on the Russian Revolution. This ticketed event at Deakin Edge will see Sean explore the turn of the 20th century in Russia and the country’s metamorphosis into what it is today.
7:15pm: After the talk, debrief with your friends on the state of Russia at the pop-up Festival Bar at Deakin Edge which will be open half an hour before every evening session.
8:00pm: It’s not over yet! Head back into Deakin Edge for a free talk on Utopia for Realists. Dutch Historian, Rutger Bregman will challenge the way we live by exploring concepts like universal basic income and 15-hour work weeks.
9:00pm: Time to go home and rehearse everything you learned during the day to regurgitate to your friends and sell as your own.
