SUMMER IN FED SQUARE

FREE SUMMER EVENT PROGRAM KICKS OFF WITH FED SQUARE LIVE – OPEN AIR CONCERT SERIES

Fed Square – the beating heart of Melbourne – will come alive with a full and exciting program of free events over the Summer months, kicking off on Thursday 17 November with the return of Fed Square Live.  This free open air concert series provides a platform for a blistering performance line up of indie, electronica and soul performances by some of Australia’s most interesting and exciting independent and emerging acts.

Hitting the stage for this year’s free summer series opener, and the launch of Melbourne Music Week, on Thursday 17 November is punked-out seven piece street band Horns of Leroy .  Bringing their New Orleans-inspired street party show to the Fed Square stage for the very first time, they will take brass band music to a whole new level. Then duo Victor Cripes will take to the stage with their quirky combination of flute and cigar-box guitar, to serenade the crowd with their distinctive lo-fi blues grunge sound.

Balmy Summer evenings with free live music continue until Thursday 16 February, 2017 showcasing a diverse  range of musical tastes as artists take to the stage with their unique take on musical expression.  Think soulful singer-songwriter Maya, inspired by 3 generations of family music makers and some of the finest musical icons of our time, or channel trip-hop electronica wrapped in soaring melodic vocals and you have the talented Kalacoma joining Maya on Thursday 1 December.

The program continues over the Summer months, featuring some of the most avant-garde and experimental, emerging artists in our city.  Aeroa, Dear Plastic, Alex Elberty and the Strangers, The Evening Cast, Justine Walsh, Matt Kelly and  Owen Rabbit will  bring their unique sound to the stage, creating a masterful sonic backdrop to summer in the city.

Melbourne’s music lovers can pull up a deck chair, slip on their dancing shoes or just settle down in one of Fed Square’s restaurants and bars and surrender to the joy of open air, live music in the heart of Melbourne.
