To be recognised internationally as a contemporary world site and Melbourne’s inspirational public space.

To manage and develop Fed Square to actively support and reflect Melbourne’s pre-eminent civic and cultural strengths.

Siemens, one of the world’s most sustainable companies, is  bringing their magic to Fed Square, sustainably powering this year’s River Rink – the only outdoor ice skating rink in Melbourne’s CBD – opening this Saturday.

Fed Square has long been dedicated to reducing water, waste and energy consumption and became a carbon-neutral precinct in 2015.  So it’s no surprise that cutting edge technology has been put to great use to bring a sustainable skating experience to the people of Melbourne.

Long term partners of Fed Square’s, Siemens is helping drive Fed Square’s green credentials, designing, installing and overseeing a co-generation plant underneath The Square that uses natural gas to generate the electricity that powers the rink.   Using a powerful cloud-based digital platform, Siemens keeps track of energy consumption, making adjustments along the way to ensure energy efficiency is optimized.

Skaters can skate and glide in good conscience knowing that River Rink is sustainably powered!

With its twinkling fairy lights and twirling tunes to create atmosphere, the open air rink will bring an environmentally friendly touch to our winter cool as happy skaters of all ages experience the joy of skating outdoors.  River Rink is also the perfect school holiday activity either during the day or into the evening.

Suitable for skaters of all ages and ability, River Rink opens on Saturday 1 July and will be in place until Sunday 23 July.  Open daily (Sunday – Wednesday | 10am – 9pm | Thursday – Saturday | 10am – 10pm), tickets will be snapped up!  Skating sessions last 45 minutes and begin on the hour, every hour.

And it’s not just skating that will be happening down on the River Terrace!  Hot chocolate, woodfired pizza, churros, doughnuts and more will be available to warm the heart’s cockles.  For those wanting to really make a picnic of it, mobile food service foodora will be offering a range of delicious deliveries as part of this uniquely Melbourne experience – right in the heart of the city.
