Fed Square hosts the city’s biggest dance party to bring in 2017

Fed Square, the beating heart of Melbourne, is about to pump up the jam with a free program of entertainment this New Year’s Eve that will get everybody’s toes tapping.  There’s sure to be a mass of movement as this musical powerhouse raises the roof to bring in the new year.  Think glam and glitter; disco and decadence and dress to impress at the party of the year.

With a program put together by Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV), the diverse line-up will feature Latin beats, salsa, funk, hip hop, Caribbean spice and a new school dance battle, as well as a show stopping tune destined to get bodies moving at 11.55pm – just before the official new year’s countdown begins.

DJ Manchild will be hitting the decks throughout the night before Circle of Funk and their Dance Battle light up the stage.  The sounds of past and future will collide when duo Zillanova play their sweet but heavy soul, rock and rocksteady tunes.  A change of pace as ARIA nominated Australian trio Cookin’ On 3 Burners infuse deep funk, raw soul, organ jazz and boogaloo.

The temperature and energy will be rising as Stella Angelica’s explosive voice fills the night air as she moves through psych/exotica, lounge and soul to really set the mood.  Inspired by the passion of salsa luminaries of New York in the 1970’s, Quarter Street will deliver a vibrant set of original salsa infused tunes and dance-inspired covers.  Featuring a driving rhythm beat and a trombone-heavy horn section, these guys are the real deal.

Enter CaribVic Masqueraders , a community lead and volunteer ensemble, who will bring some Caribbean soul, vibrancy, theatre, colour and movement to their dance set before Quarter Street retake the stage to really get the party started.  Sing and dance your way to midnight as they channel Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson with a show-stopping rendition of UpTown Funk, a tune destined to get the hips swinging and the hands clapping.
