Pull up a deckchair, sit back and enjoy a film night under the stars as the Big Screen plays host to a program of Indigenous Australian films, including Stephen Page’s enthralling SPEAR and Don Featherstone’s classic mockumentary BabaKiueria.

BabaKiueria | Directed by Don Featherstone

Can you imagine what it would be like if black settlers arrived to settle a continent inhabited by white natives? BabaKiueria (pronounced ‘barbecue area’) is a short and effective drama that features the role reversal in which Aboriginal Australians change places with the historically dominant white Australians.

SPEAR | Directed by Stephen Page

Collaborating with dancers and creatives from Bangarra Dance Theatre, Stephen Page’s directorial debut brings visually stunning dance work to the screen. Through a unique collaboration between artists and filmmakers, this ground-breaking film follows the journey of a young Aboriginal man, Djali, as he tries to understand what it means to be a man with ancient traditions in a modern world.
