Join safe steps Family Violence Response Centre at Fed Square for the annual Candlelight Vigil, and light a candle in remembrance of lives lost due to family violence.
This annual event occurs the first Wednesday in May. It is held simultaneously with other vigils across Australia to remember those who have been killed as a result of family violence and to show support for their families, friends and colleagues.
It is also a chance to stand together as a community and show solidarity to those still living in an unsafe home environment.
MCed by award-winning Interior Designer Shaynna Blaze, the 2017 Candlelight Vigil will feature an honour roll of the women and children tragically killed in the past year, plus speakers including safe steps CEO Annette Gillespie, and a moving musical tribute by Kate Ceberano AM.
LED candles will be available for purchase at the event, but no open flames are permitted at Federation Square.
Please invite your friends and family to join us at 5.45pm Wednesday 3rd May at Federation Square for this important occasion.
Please note that cameras and news organisations may be in attendance at the vigil. If you do not want to be photographed, please let the attending media know when you arrive.
Not able to make it? You can still show your support for those lost to and living with family violence by donating a Candle of Hope in their honour which will be lit and placed on stage at the vigil – https://
