Summer might be on its way out, but the return of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival promises to bring smiles to faces around the city. The festival, one of the three biggest in the world, will play host to some of international comedy’s biggest names, as well as supporting new and local talent, and Fed Square is proud to once again be right at the heart of the festival.
The (Very) Big Laugh Out | 31 March – 23 April | The Square
Free-flowing fun for the whole family, bringing some of the world’s most wacky and wonderful street performers to multiple stages across Fed Square. An action-packed program of comedy, circus, clowning and acrobatics – it runs daily from midday from 31 March until 23 April, and it’s totally free.
The LOL Roll | 31 March – 23 April | The Atrium
An exciting experimental comedy and art project. Beginning with a blank roll of paper, a range of comedians will be invited to draw/write/sketch/doodle whatever makes them ‘lol’ (laugh out loud), and with each addition, the artwork grows. The audience can follow its creation through Instagram, allowing them to comment, share and engage with the comedians and MICF.
Mini LOL Roll | 5 April – 7 April | The Atrium
An experiment in community art making and all for a good cause. Just like the comedian artists you will hash-tag and share your art on the LOL Roll Instagram. Free workshops will be hosted by the artist Joel Evans, who will guide you through the process of drawing, writing and sketching artwork. Just turn up, no booking needed!
manoAmano | 8 April – 16 April | The Square
Meanwhile, Fed Square venues including ACMI and Taxi Riverside will be hosting international and local stars of the MICF throughout – make sure you check the official programme to keep up-to-date with what’s going on.
